Brand logo for a new program to honor students and staff

Background
The Yonkers Public Schools was looking to start a new program that would honor staff and students for a wide variety of exceptional achievements. The concept was to publish a document once a month that would name the persons involved and briefly describe their achievements. In addition, the honorees would be presented with a Yonkers Pride pin at the monthly Board of Education meeting.
Solution
My goal was to make it bold and simple. I incorporated the star as a symbol of pride. The subtle motion in the typeface combined with the rising star clearly suggest an "on the move - rising to the top" feeling.
